¹Rab’bin meleği Galgal’dan Klauthmon’a, Beytel’e ve İsrail hanesine doğru çıktı ve onlara şöyle dedi: “Rab şöyle der: Sizi Mısır’dan yukarı çıkardım ve babalarınıza ant içtiğim topraklara getirdim. Ve dedim ki: Sizinle olan antlaşmamı sonsuza dek bozmayacağım.

²Siz de bu ülkede yerleşik olanlarla hiçbir antlaşma yapmayacaksınız, onların ilahlarına secde etmeyeceksiniz; aksine onların oyma putlarını parçalayacak, sunaklarını yıkacaksınız. Ama siz benim sesime kulak vermediniz. Neden böyle yaptınız?

³Ben de dedim ki: Onları sizin önünüzden asla çıkarmayacağım; onlar sizin için kuşatıcı sıkıntılar olacak ve ilahları sizin için bir tökezleme engeli haline gelecek.”

⁴Rab’bin meleği bu sözleri bütün İsrailoğulları’na söyleyince, halk sesini yükselterek ağladı.

⁵Oraya “Klauthmones” adını verdiler ve orada Rab’be kurbanlar sundular.

⁶Yeşu halkı salıverince, her adam toprağı miras olarak almak üzere kendi mirasına gitti.

⁷Yeşu’nun yaşadığı tüm günler boyunca ve Yeşu’dan sonra uzun yaşayan, Rab’bin İsrail için yaptığı bütün o büyük işleri bilen ihtiyarların ömrü boyunca halk Rab’be kulluk etti.

⁸Rab’bin kulu, Naue oğlu Yeşu yüz on yaşında öldü.

⁹Onu Efrayim’in dağlık bölgesinde, Gaas Dağı’nın kuzeyindeki kendi mirasının sınırları içinde kalan Thamnathares’e gömdüler.

¹⁰O kuşağın hepsi de babalarına katıldıktan sonra, arkalarından Rab’bi ve O’nun İsrail için yaptığı işleri bilmeyen başka bir kuşak yetişti.

¹⁴Rab’bin İsrail’e karşı öfkesi alevlendi; onları kendilerini yağmalayanların eline teslim etti, onlar da kendilerini yağmaladı. Onları çevrelerindeki düşmanlarının eline sattı; artık düşmanlarının karşısında duramaz oldular.

¹⁵Her sefere çıktıklarında, Rab’bin söylediği ve onlara ant içtiği gibi, Rab’bin eli felaket getirmek üzere üzerlerindeydi. Onları şiddetle sıkıştırdı.

¹⁶Sonra Rab hakimler uyandırdı; bunlar onları kendilerini yağmalayanların elinden kurtardı. Ama hakimlerini de dinlemediler;

¹⁷Çünkü başka ilahların ardınca fahişelik ettiler ve onlara secde ettiler. Babalarının Rab’bin sözlerini dinleyerek yürüdüğü yoldan hızla saptılar; babaları gibi davranmadılar.

¹⁸Rab onlar için ne zaman bir hakim uyandırdıysa, Rab o hakimle birlikte oldu ve hakimin ömrü boyunca onları düşmanlarının elinden kurtardı. Çünkü kendilerini kuşatanların ve onlara eziyet edenlerin önündeki iniltilerinden ötürü Rab merhamete getiriliyordu.

¹⁹Ancak hakim ölünce yine geriye dönüyor, başka ilahların ardınca gidip onlara kulluk ve secde ederek babalarından daha çok yozlaşıyorlardı. Kendi pratiklerinden ve inatçı yollarından vazgeçmiyorlardı.

²⁰Bu yüzden Rab’bin İsrail’e karşı öfkesi alevlendi ve şöyle dedi: “Bu ulus, babalarına buyurduğum antlaşmamı terk ettiği ve sesimi dinlemediği için,

²¹Naue oğlu Yeşu öldüğünde ülkede bıraktığı uluslardan hiçbir adamı artık onların önünden sürüp çıkarmayacağım.

²²Bununla, babalarının Rab’bin yolunu koruduğu gibi, bu yolu koruyup onda yürüyüp yürümeyeceklerini görmek için İsrail’i sınayacağım.”

²³Böylece Rab o ulusları hemen sürüp çıkarmadı, orada bıraktı ve onları Yeşu’nun eline teslim etmedi.

¹ΚΑΙ ἀνέβη ἄγγελος Κυρίου ἀπὸ Γαλγὰλ ἐπὶ τὸν Κλαυθμῶνα καὶ ἐπὶ Βαιθὴλ καἱ ἐπὶ τὸν οἶκον ᾿Ισραὴλ καὶ εἶπε πρὸς αὐτούς· τάδε λέγει Κύριος· ἀνεβίβασα ὑμᾶς ἐξ Αἰγύπτου καὶ εἰσήγαγον ὑμᾶς εἰς τὴν γῆν, ἣν ὤμοσα τοῖς πατράσιν ὑμῶν, καὶ εἶπα· οὐ διασκεδάσω τὴν διαθήκην μου τὴν μεθ᾿ ὑμῶν εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα·

²καὶ ὑμεῖς οὐ διαθήσεσθε διαθήκην τοῖς ἐγκαθημένοις εἰς τὴν γῆν ταύτην, οὐδὲ τοῖς θεοῖς αὐτῶν προσκυνήσετε, ἀλλὰ τὰ γλυπτὰ αὐτῶν συντρίψετε, τὰ θυσιαστήρια αὐτῶν καθελεῖτε. καὶ οὐκ εἰσηκούσατε τῆς φωνῆς μου, ὅτι ταῦτα ἐποιήσατε.

³κἀγὼ εἶπον· οὐ μὴ ἐξάρω αὐτοὺς ἐκ προσώπου ὑμῶν, καὶ ἔσονται ὑμῖν εἰς συνοχάς, καὶ οἱ θεοὶ αὐτῶν ἔσονται ὑμῖν εἰς σκάνδαλον.

⁴καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἐλάλησεν ὁ ἄγγελος Κυρίου τοὺς λόγους τούτους πρὸς πάντας υἱοὺς ᾿Ισραήλ, καὶ ἐπῇραν ὁ λαὸς τὴν φωνὴν αὐτῶν καὶ ἔκλαυσαν.

⁵καὶ ἐπωνόμασαν τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ τόπου ἐκείνου, Κλαυθμῶνες· καὶ ἐθυσίασαν ἐκεῖ τῷ Κυρίῳ.

⁶Καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν ᾿Ιησοῦς τὸν λαόν, καὶ ἦλθεν ἀνὴρ εἰς τὴν κληρονομίαν αὐτοῦ κατακληρονομῆσαι τὴν γῆν.

⁷καὶ ἐδούλευσεν ὁ λαὸς τῷ Κυρίῳ πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας ᾿Ιησοῦ καὶ πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας τῶν πρεσβυτέρων, ὅσοι ἐμακροημέρευσαν μετὰ ᾿Ιησοῦ, ὅσοι ἔγνωσαν πᾶν τὸ ἔργον Κυρίου τὸ μέγα, ὃ ἐποίησεν ἐν τῷ ᾿Ισραήλ.

⁸καὶ ἐτελεύτησεν ᾿Ιησοῦς υἱὸς Ναυὴ δοῦλος Κυρίου, υἱὸς ἑκατὸν δέκα ἐτῶν.

⁹καὶ ἔθαψαν αὐτὸν ἐν ὁρίῳ τῆς κληρονομίας αὐτοῦ ἐν Θαμναθαρές, ἐν ὄρει ᾿Εφραὶμ ἀπὸ βορρᾶ τοῦ ὄρους Γαάς.

¹⁰καί γε πᾶσα ἡ γενεὰ ἐκείνη προσετέθησαν πρὸς τοὺς πατέρας αὐτῶν, καὶ ἀνέστη γενεὰ ἑτέρα μετ᾿ αὐτούς, οἳ οὐκ ἔγνωσαν τὸν Κύριον καί γε τὸ ἔργον, ὃ ἐποίησεν ἐν τῷ ᾿Ισραήλ.

¹¹Καὶ ἐποίησαν οἱ υἱοὶ ᾿Ισραὴλ τὸ πονηρὸν ἐνώπιον Κυρίου καὶ ἐλάτρευσαν τοῖς Βααλίμ.

¹²καὶ ἐγκατέλιπον τὸν Κύριον τὸν Θεὸν τῶν πατέρων αὐτῶν τὸν ἐξαγαγόντα αὐτοὺς ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν ὀπίσω θεῶν ἑτέρων ἀπὸ τῶν θεῶν τῶν ἐθνῶν τῶν περικύκλῳ αὐτῶν καί προσεκύνησαν αὐτοῖς καὶ παρώργισαν τὸν Κύριον

¹³καὶ ἐγκατέλιπον αὐτὸν καὶ ἐλάτρευσαν τῷ Βάαλ καὶ ταῖς ᾿Αστάρταις.

¹⁴καὶ ὠργίσθη θυμῷ Κύριος ἐν τῷ ᾿Ισραὴλ καὶ παρέδωκεν αὐτοὺς εἰς χεῖρας προνομευόντων, καὶ κατεπρονόμευσαν αὐτούς· καὶ ἀπέδοτο αὐτοὺς ἐν χερσὶ τῶν ἐχθρῶν αὐτῶν κυκλόθεν, καὶ οὐκ ἠδυνήθησαν ἔτι ἀντιστῆναι κατὰ πρόσωπον τῶν ἐχθρῶν αὐτῶν.

¹⁵ἐν πᾶσιν, οἷς ἐπορεύοντο, καὶ χεὶρ Κυρίου ἦν ἐπ᾿ αὐτοὺς εἰς κακά, καθὼς ἐλάλησε Κύριος καὶ καθὼς ὤμοσε Κύριος αὐτοῖς, καὶ ἐξέθλιψεν αὐτοὺς σφόδρα.

¹⁶καὶ ἤγειρε Κύριος κριτάς, καὶ ἔσωσεν αὐτοὺς Κύριος ἐκ χειρὸς τῶν προνομευόντων αὐτούς. καί γε τῶν κριτῶν οὐχ ὑπήκουσαν,

¹⁷ὅτι ἐξεπόρνευσαν ὀπίσω θεῶν ἑτέρων καὶ προσεκύνησαν αὐτοῖς· καὶ ἐξέκλιναν ταχὺ ἐκ τῆς ὁδοῦ, ἧς ἐπορεύθησαν οἱ πατέρες αὐτῶν τοῦ εἰσακούειν τῶν λόγων Κυρίου, οὐκ ἐποίησαν οὕτως.

¹⁸καὶ ὅτι ἤγειρε Κύριος αὐτοῖς κριτάς, καὶ ἦν Κύριος μετὰ τοῦ κριτοῦ καὶ ἔσωσεν αὐτοὺς ἐκ χειρὸς ἐχθρῶν αὐτῶν πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας τοῦ κριτοῦ, ὅτι παρεκλήθη Κύριος ἀπὸ τοῦ στεναγμοῦ αὐτῶν ἀπὸ προσώπου τῶν πολιορκούντων αὐτοὺς καί ἐκθλιβόντων αὐτούς.

¹⁹καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἀπέθνησκεν ὁ κριτής, καὶ ἀπέστρεψαν καὶ πάλιν διέφθειραν ὑπὲρ τοὺς πατέρας αὐτῶν πορεύεσθαι ὀπίσω θεῶν ἑτέρων, λατρεύειν αὐτοῖς καὶ προσκυνεῖν αὐτοῖς· οὐκ ἀπέρριψαν τὰ ἐπιτηδεύματα αὐτῶν, καὶ τὰς ὁδοὺς αὐτῶν τὰς σκληράς.

²⁰καὶ ὠργίσθη θυμῷ Κύριος ἐν τῷ ᾿Ισραὴλ καὶ εἶπεν· ἀνθ᾿ ὧν ὅσα ἐγκατέλιπον τὸ ἔθνος τοῦτο τὴν διαθήκην μου, ἣν ἐνετειλάμην τοῖς πατράσιν αὐτῶν, καὶ οὐκ εἰσήκουσαν τῆς φωνῆς μου,

²¹καὶ ἐγὼ οὐ προσθήσω τοῦ ἐξᾶραι ἄνδρα ἐκ προσώπου αὐτῶν ἀπὸ τῶν ἐθνῶν, ὧν κατέλιπεν ᾿Ιησοῦς υἱὸς Ναυὴ ἐν τῇ γῇ

²²καὶ ἀφῆκε, τοῦ πειράσαι ἐν αὐτοῖς τὸν ᾿Ισραήλ, εἰ φυλάσσονται τὴν ὁδὸν Κυρίου πορεύεσθαι ἐν αὐτῇ, ὃν τρόπον ἐφύλαξαν οἱ πατέρες αὐτῶν, ἢ οὔ.

²³καὶ ἀφῆκε Κύριος τὰ ἔθνη ταῦτα τοῦ μὴ ἐξᾶραι αὐτὰ τὸ τάχος καὶ οὐ παρέδωκεν αὐτὰ ἐν χειρὶ ᾿Ιησοῦ.

¹And an angel of the Lord went up from Galgal to the [place of] weeping, and to Baethel, and to the house of Israel, and said to them, Thus says the Lord, I brought you up out of Egypt, and I brought you into the land which I sware to your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant that I have made with you.

²And ye shall make no covenant with them that dwell in this land, neither shall ye worship their gods; but ye shall destroy their graven images, ye shall pull down their altars: but ye hearkened not to my voice, for ye did these things.

³And I said, I will not drive them out from before you, but they shall be for a distress to you, and their gods shall be to you for an offence.

⁴And it came to pass when the angel of the Lord spoke these words to all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept.

⁵And they named the name of that place Weepings; and they sacrificed there to the Lord.

⁶And Joshua dismissed the people, and they went every man to his inheritance, to inherit the land.

⁷And the people served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that lived many days with Joshua, as many as knew all the great work of the Lord, what things he had wrought in Israel.

⁸And Joshua the son of Naue, the servant of the Lord, died, a hundred and ten years old.

⁹And they buried him in the border of his inheritance, in Thamnathares, in mount Ephraim, on the north of the mountain of Gaas.

¹⁰And all that generation were laid to their fathers: and another generation rose up after them, who knew not the Lord, nor yet the work which he wrought in Israel.

¹¹And the children of Israel wrought evil before the Lord, and served Baalim.

¹²And they forsook the Lord God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and walked after other gods, of the gods of the nations round about them; and they worshipped them.

¹³And they provoked the Lord, and forsook him, and served Baal and the Astartes.

¹⁴And the Lord was very angry with Israel; and he gave them into the hands of the spoilers, and they spoiled them; and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, and they could not any longer resist their enemies,

¹⁵among whomsoever they went; and the hand of the Lord was against them for evil, as the Lord spoke, and as the Lord sware to them; and he greatly afflicted them.

¹⁶And the Lord raised up judges, and the Lord save them out of the hands of them that spoiled them: and yet they hearkened not to the judges,

¹⁷for they went a whoring after other gods, and worshipped them; and they turned quickly out of the way in which their fathers walked to hearken to the words of the Lord; they did not so.

¹⁸And because the Lord raised them up judges, so the Lord was with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for the Lord was moved at their groaning by reason of them that besieged them and afflicted them.

¹⁹And it came to pass when the judge died, that they went back, and again corrupted [themselves] worse than their fathers to go after other gods to serve them and to worship them: they abandoned not their devices nor their stubborn ways.

²⁰And the Lord was very angry with Israel, and said, Forasmuch as this nation has forsaken my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and has not hearkened to my voice,

²¹therefore I will not any more cast out a man of the nations before their face, which Joshua the son of Naue left in the land. And [the Lord] left [them],

²²to prove Israel with them, whether they would keep the way of the Lord, to walk in it, as their fathers kept it, or no.

²³So the Lord will leave these nations, so as not to cast them out suddenly; and he delivered them not into the hand of Joshua.
