¹Ve Rab Musa'ya şöyle seslenerek konuştu:

²"İsrail oğullarının öcünü Midyanlılardan tamamen al; ve bu son görevinden sonra sen de kendi atalarının halkına ekleneceksin."

³Musa da halka seslenerek şöyle dedi: "Aranızdan bazı adamları silahlandırın ve Midyan'a karşı Rab'bin önünde savaş düzeni alsınlar ki, Rab'bin adaletini ve öcünü Midyan'a ödetsinler.

⁴İsrail oğullarının bütün oymaklarından, her oymaktan biner kişi olmak üzere savaşa gönderin."

⁵Böylece İsrail'in binlercesi arasından her oymaktan biner kişi sayıldı; savaş düzeni için silahlanmış on iki bin kişi toplandı.

⁶Musa onları, her oymaktan biner kişiyi kendi askeri güçleriyle birlikte ve kâhin Harun oğlu Eleazar'ın oğlu Pinehas'ı, ellerinde kutsal eşyalar ve işaret borularıyla savaşa gönderdi.

⁷Rab'bin Musa'ya buyurduğu gibi Midyan'a karşı savaş düzeni alıp savaştılar ve bütün erkekleri öldürdüler.

⁸Midyan krallarını da can çekişen yaralılarıyla birlikte öldürdüler: Midyan'ın beş kralı olan Evi, Rokon, Sur, Ur ve Robok'u; ayrıca Beor oğlu Balam'ı da kılıçtan geçirerek yaralılarıyla birlikte öldürdüler.

⁹Midyanlı kadınları ve onların çocuklarıyla eşyalarını esir aldılar; bütün hayvanlarını, sürülerini, yasal olarak edinilmiş tüm mülklerini ve tüm servetlerini yağmaladılar.

¹⁰Yaşadıkları yerleşim yerlerindeki bütün kentleri ve obalarını ateşe verip yaktılar.

¹¹İnsanlardan hayvanlara kadar bütün yağmalanmış malları ve tüm ganimetleri aldılar.

¹²Tutsakları, ganimetleri ve yağmalanan malları, Şeria Irmağı'nın kenarında, Eriha'nın karşısındaki Moav ovalarında bulunan ordugâha; Musa'ya, Kâhin Eleazar'ya ve bütün İsrail topluluğuna getirdiler.

¹⁹Siz ise yedi gün ordugâhın dışında konaklayın. Birini öldüren ya da öldürülmüş birine dokunan herkes, hem siz hem de tutsaklarınız, üçüncü ve yedinci gün kendinizi arındırın.

²⁰Bütün giysileri, deriden yapılmış her eşyayı, keçi kılından üretilmiş her şeyi ve ahşap her kabı tamamen arındırın."

²¹Kâhin Eleazar savaştan dönen askerlere şöyle dedi: "Rab'bin Musa'ya buyurduğu yasanın hükmü şudur:

²²Altın, gümüş, tunç, demir, kurşun ve kalay;

²³Ateşe dayanıklı her şeyi ateşten geçireceksiniz, böylece temizlenecektir; ancak arınma suyuyla da arındırılmalıdır. Ateşe dayanıklı olmayan her şeyi ise sudan geçireceksiniz.

²⁴Yedinci gün giysilerinizi yıkayın, böylece temizlenmiş olursunuz; ondan sonra ordugâha girebilirsiniz."

²⁵Ve Rab Musa'ya şöyle seslenerek konuştu:

²⁶"Sen, Kâhin Eleazar ve topluluğun aile başları, insanlardan hayvanlara kadar ele geçirilen bütün tutsakların ve ganimetlerin toplam sayımını yapın.

²⁷Ganimeti, savaşa katılan askerler ile topluluğun geri kalanı arasında yarı yarıya paylaştırın.

²⁸Savaşa giden askerlerin payından Rab için bir vergi ayırın: İnsanlardan, sığırlardan, eşeklerden ve davarlardan her beş yüz canlıdan birini alın.

²⁹Bunu onların yarı payından alacak ve Rab'be sunulan bir bağış olarak Kâhin Eleazar'a vereceksin.

³⁰İsrail oğullarının yarı payından ise insanlardan, sığırlardan, eşeklerden, davarlardan ve her türlü hayvandan her elli canlıdan birini alacak ve bunları Rab'bin Konutu'nun nöbetini tutan Levililere vereceksin."

³¹Musa ile Kâhin Eleazar, Rab'bin Musa'ya buyurduğu gibi yaptılar.

³²Savaşçıların yağmaladığı ganimetlerden geriye kalanlar şunlardı: Altı yüz yetmiş beş bin koyun,

³³yetmiş iki bin sığır,

³⁴altmış bir bin eşek,

³⁵ve bir erkekle yatak ilişkisi kurmamış kadınlardan oluşan toplam otuz iki bin kişi.

³⁶Savaşa gidenlerin payına düşen yarım hisse, koyun sayısından üç yüz otuz yedi bin beş yüz adet oldu.

³⁷Bunlardan Rab'be vergi olarak altı yüz yetmiş beş koyun düştü.

³⁸Sığırlar otuz altı bindi; bunlardan Rab'be yetmiş iki sığır düştü.

³⁹Eşekler otuz bin beş yüzdü; bunlardan Rab'be altmış bir eşek düştü.

⁴⁰İnsanlar on altı bindi; bunlardan Rab'be vergi olarak otuz iki kişi düştü.

⁴¹Musa, Rab'bin kendisine buyurduğu gibi, Rab'be sunulan bağış olan bu vergiyi Kâhin Eleazar'a verdi.

⁴²Musa'nın savaşan adamlardan ayırıp İsrail oğullarına verdiği yarı paydan:

⁴³Topluluğun payına düşen yarı hisse koyunlardan üç yüz otuz yedi bin beş yüz,

⁴⁴otuz altı bin sığır,

⁴⁵otuz bin beş yüz eşek

⁴⁶ve on altı bin insandı.

⁴⁷Musa, İsrail oğullarının yarı payından gerek insanlardan gerek hayvanlardan her elli canlıdan birini aldı ve Rab'bin kendisine buyurduğu gibi, bunları Rab'bin Konutu'nun nöbetini tutan Levililere verdi.

⁴⁸Ordunun binlercesine atanmış olan bütün komutanlar, binbaşılar ve yüzbaşılar Musa'ya yaklaşıp şöyle dediler:

⁴⁹"Kulların, komutamız altındaki savaşçıların sayımını yaptı; bizden tek bir kişi bile eksilmedi.

⁵⁰Bu yüzden her birimizin bulduğu altın eşyaları —halhalları, bilezikleri, yüzükleri, pazubentleri ve saç örgüsü süslerini— Rab'bin önünde kendimizi bağışlatmak için Rab'be sunu olarak getirdik."

⁵¹Musa ile Kâhin Eleazar onlardan altını, yani işlenmiş her türlü eşyayı aldılar.

⁵²Binbaşılardan ve yüzbaşılardan alınıp Rab'be sunulan bağış altınların tümü on altı bin yedi yüz elli şekel tuttu.

⁵³Savaşçılardan her biri kendi adına yağma etmişti.

⁵⁴Musa ile Kâhin Eleazar, binbaşılardan ve yüzbaşılardan altını alıp Rab'bin önünde İsrail oğulları için bir anma sunusu olarak Tanıklık Çadırı'na getirdiler.

¹ΚΑΙ ἐλάλησε Κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν λέγων·

²ἐκδίκει τὴν ἐκδίκησιν υἱῶν ᾿Ισραὴλ ἐκ τῶν Μαδιανιτῶν, καὶ ἔσχατον προστεθήσῃ πρὸς τὸν λαόν σου.

³καὶ ἐλάλησε Μωυσῆς πρὸς τὸν λαὸν λέγων· ἐξοπλίσατε ἐξ ὑμῶν ἄνδρας καὶ παρατάξασθε ἔναντι Κυρίου ἐπὶ Μαδιὰν ἀποδοῦναι ἐκδίκησιν παρὰ τοῦ Κυρίου τῇ Μαδιάν·

⁴χιλίους ἐκ φυλῆς, χιλίους ἐκ φυλῆς, ἐκ πασῶν φυλῶν υἱῶν ᾿Ισραὴλ ἀποστείλατε παρατάξασθαι.

⁵καὶ ἐξηρίθμησαν ἐκ τῶν χιλιάδων ᾿Ισραὴλ χιλίους ἐκ φυλῆς, δώδεκα χιλιάδας ἐνωπλισμένοι εἰς παράταξιν.

⁶καὶ ἀπέστειλεν αὐτοὺς Μωυσῆς χιλίους ἐκ φυλῆς, χιλίους ἐκ φυλῆς σὺν δυνάμει αὐτῶν καὶ Φινεὲς υἱὸν ᾿Ελεάζαρ υἱοῦ ᾿Ααρὼν τοῦ ἱερέως, καὶ τὰ σκεύη τὰ ἅγια καὶ αἱ σάλπιγγες τῶν σημασιῶν ἐν ταῖς χερσὶν αὐτῶν.

⁷καὶ παρετάξαντο ἐπὶ Μαδιάν, καθὰ ἐνετείλατο Κύριος Μωυσῇ, καὶ ἀπέκτειναν πᾶν ἀρσενικόν·

⁸καὶ τοὺς βασιλεῖς Μαδιὰν ἀπέκτειναν ἅμα τοῖς τραυματίαις αὐτῶν, καὶ τὸν Εὐὶν καὶ τὸν Ῥοκὸν καὶ τὸν Σοὺρ καὶ τὸν Οὒρ καὶ τὸν Ῥοβόκ, πέντε βασιλεῖς Μαδιάν· καὶ τὸν Βαλαὰμ υἱὸν Βεὼρ ἀπέκτειναν ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ σὺν τοῖς τραυματίαις αὐτῶν.

⁹καὶ ἐπρονόμευσαν τὰς γυναῖκας Μαδιὰν καὶ τὴν ἀποσκευὴν αὐτῶν, καὶ τὰ κτήνη αὐτῶν καὶ πάντα τὰ ἔγκτητα αὐτῶν καὶ τὴν δύναμιν αὐτῶν ἐπρονόμευσαν·

¹⁰καὶ πάσας τὰς πόλεις αὐτῶν τὰς ἐν ταῖς κατοικίαις αὐτῶν καὶ τὰς ἐπαύλεις αὐτῶν ἐνέπρησαν ἐν πυρί.

¹¹καὶ ἔλαβον πᾶσαν τὴν προνομὴν αὐτῶν καὶ πάντα τὰ σκῦλα αὐτῶν ἀπὸ ἀνθρώπου ἕως κτήνους

¹²καὶ ἤγαγον πρὸς Μωυσῆν καὶ πρὸς ᾿Ελεάζαρ τὸν ἱερέα καὶ πρὸς πάντας υἱοὺς ᾿Ισραὴλ τὴν αἰχμαλωσίαν καὶ τὰ σκῦλα καὶ τὴν προνομὴν εἰς τὴν παρεμβολὴν εἰς ᾿Αραβὼθ Μωάβ, ἥ ἐστιν ἐπὶ τοῦ ᾿Ιορδάνου κατὰ ῾Ιεριχώ.

¹³Καὶ ἐξῆλθε Μωυσῆς καὶ ᾿Ελεάζαρ ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ πάντες οἱ ἄρχοντες τῆς συναγωγῆς εἰς συνάντησιν αὐτοῖς ἔξω τῆς παρεμβολῆς.

¹⁴καὶ ὠργίσθη Μωυσῆς ἐπὶ τοῖς ἐπισκόποις τῆς δυνάμεως, χιλιάρχοις καὶ ἑκατοντάρχοις τοῖς ἐρχομένοις ἐκ τῆς παρατάξεως τοῦ πολέμου,

¹⁵καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Μωυσῆς· ἱνατί ἐζωγρήσατε πᾶν θῆλυ;

¹⁶αὗται γὰρ ἦσαν τοῖς υἱοῖς ᾿Ισραὴλ κατὰ τὸ ρῆμα Βαλαὰμ τοῦ ἀποστῆσαι καὶ ὑπεριδεῖν τὸ ρῆμα Κυρίου ἕνεκεν Φογώρ, καὶ ἐγένετο ἡ πληγὴ ἐν τῇ συναγωγῇ Κυρίου.

¹⁷καὶ νῦν ἀποκτείνατε πᾶν ἀρσενικὸν ἐν πάσῃ τῇ ἀπαρτίᾳ, πᾶσαν γυναῖκα, ἥτις ἔγνω κοίτην ἄρσενος, ἀποκτείνατε·

¹⁸καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν ἀπαρτίαν τῶν γυναικῶν, ἥτις οὐκ οἶδε κοίτην ἄρσενος, ζωγρήσατε αὐτάς.

¹⁹καὶ ὑμεῖς παρεμβάλετε ἔξω τῆς παρεμβολῆς ἑπτὰ ἡμέρας· πᾶς ὁ ἀνελὼν καὶ ὁ ἁπτόμενος τοῦ τετρωμένου ἁγνισθήσεται τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ τρίτῃ καὶ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ἑβδόμῃ ὑμεῖς καὶ ἡ αἰχμαλωσία ὑμῶν·

²⁰καὶ πᾶν περίβλημα καὶ πᾶν σκεῦος δερμάτινον καὶ πᾶσαν ἐργασίαν ἐξ αἰγείας καὶ πᾶν σκεῦος ξύλινον ἀφαγνιεῖτε.

²¹καὶ εἶπεν ᾿Ελεάζαρ ὁ ἱερεὺς πρὸς τοὺς ἄνδρας τῆς δυνάμεως τοὺς ἐρχομένους ἐκ τῆς παρατάξεως τοῦ πολέμου· τοῦτο τὸ δικαίωμα τοῦ νόμου, ὃ συνέταξε Κύριος τῷ Μωυσῇ.

²²πλὴν τοῦ χρυσίου καὶ τοῦ ἀργυρίου καὶ χαλκοῦ καὶ σιδήρου καὶ μολίβου καὶ κασσιτέρου,

²³πᾶν πρᾶγμα, ὃ διελεύσεται ἐν πυρί, καὶ καθαρισθήσεται, ἀλλ’ ἢ τῷ ὕδατι τοῦ ἁγνισμοῦ ἁγνισθήσεται· καὶ πάντα ὅσα ἐὰν μὴ διαπορεύηται διὰ πυρός, διελεύσεται δι’ ὕδατος.

²⁴καὶ πλυνεῖσθε τὰ ἱμάτια τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ἑβδόμῃ καὶ καθαρισθήσεσθε καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα εἰσελεύσεσθε εἰς τὴν παρεμβολήν.

²⁵Καὶ ἐλάλησε Κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν λέγων·

²⁶λάβε τὸ κεφάλαιον τῶν σκύλων τῆς αἰχμαλωσίας ἀπὸ ἀνθρώπου ἕως κτήνους, σὺ καὶ ᾿Ελεάζαρ ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ οἱ ἄρχοντες τῶν πατριῶν τῆς συναγωγῆς,

²⁷καὶ διελεῖτε τὰ σκῦλα ἀνὰ μέσον τῶν πολεμιστῶν τῶν ἐκπεπορευμένων εἰς τὴν παράταξιν, καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον πάσης συναγωγῆς.

²⁸καὶ ἀφελεῖτε τέλος Κυρίῳ παρὰ τῶν ἀνθρώπων τῶν πολεμιστῶν τῶν ἐκπεπορευμένων εἰς τὴν παράταξιν μίαν ψυχὴν ἀπὸ πεντακοσίων, ἀπὸ τῶν ἀνθρώπων καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν κτηνῶν καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν βοῶν καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν προβάτων καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν ὄνων·

²⁹καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ ἡμίσους αὐτῶν λήψεσθε καὶ δώσεις ᾿Ελεάζαρ τῷ ἱερεῖ τὰς ἀπαρχὰς Κυρίου.

³⁰καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ ἡμίσους τοῦ τῶν υἱῶν ᾿Ισραὴλ λήψῃ ἕνα ἀπὸ πεντήκοντα ἀπὸ τῶν ἀνθρώπων καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν βοῶν καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν προβάτων καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν ὄνων καὶ ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν κτηνῶν καὶ δώσεις αὐτὰ τοῖς Λευίταις τοῖς φυλάσσουσι τὰς φυλακὰς ἐν τῇ σκηνῇ Κυρίου.

³¹καὶ ἐποίησε Μωυσῆς καὶ ᾿Ελεάζαρ ὁ ἱερεὺς καθὰ συνέταξε Κύριος τῷ Μωυσῇ.

³²καὶ ἐγενήθη τὸ πλεόνασμα τῆς προνομῆς, ὃ προενόμευσαν οἱ ἄνδρες οἱ πολεμισταὶ ἀπὸ τῶν προβάτων, ἑξακόσιαι χιλιάδες καὶ ἑβδομήκοντα καὶ πέντε χιλιάδες

³³καὶ βόες δύο καὶ ἑβδομήκοντα χιλιάδες

³⁴καὶ ὄνοι μία καὶ ἑξήκοντα χιλιάδες

³⁵καὶ ψυχαὶ ἀνθρώπων ἀπὸ τῶν γυναικῶν, αἳ οὐκ ἔγνωσαν κοίτην ἀνδρός, πᾶσαι ψυχαὶ δύο καὶ τριάκοντα χιλιάδες.

³⁶καὶ ἐγενήθη τὸ ἡμίσευμα ἡ μερὶς τῶν ἐκπεπορευμένων εἰς τὸν πόλεμον ἐκ τοῦ ἀριθμοῦ τῶν προβάτων τριακόσιαι καὶ τριάκοντα χιλιάδες καὶ ἑπτακισχίλια καὶ πεντακόσια.

³⁷καὶ ἐγένετο τὸ τέλος Κυρίῳ ἀπὸ τῶν προβάτων ἑξακόσιαι ἑβδομήκοντα πέντε·

³⁸καὶ βόες ἓξ καὶ τριάκοντα χιλιάδες, καὶ τὸ τέλος Κυρίῳ δύο καὶ ἑβδομήκοντα·

³⁹καὶ ὄνοι τριάκοντα χιλιάδες καὶ πεντακόσιοι, καὶ τὸ τέλος Κυρίῳ εἷς καὶ ἑξήκοντα·

⁴⁰καὶ ψυχαὶ ἀνθρώπων ἑκκαίδεκα χιλιάδες, καὶ τὸ τέλος αὐτῶν Κυρίῳ δύο καὶ τριάκοντα ψυχαί.

⁴¹καὶ ἔδωκε Μωυσῆς τὸ τέλος Κυρίῳ τὸ ἀφαίρεμα τοῦ Θεοῦ ᾿Ελεάζαρ τῷ ἱερεῖ, καθὰ συνέταξε Κύριος τῷ Μωυσῇ.

⁴²ἀπὸ τοῦ ἡμισεύματος τῶν υἱῶν ᾿Ισραήλ, οὓς διεῖλε Μωυσῆς ἀπὸ τῶν ἀνδρῶν τῶν πολεμιστῶν.

⁴³καὶ ἐγένετο τὸ ἡμίσευμα ἀπὸ τῆς συναγωγῆς ἀπὸ τῶν προβάτων τριακόσιαι καὶ τριάκοντα χιλιάδες καὶ ἑπτακισχίλια καὶ πεντακόσια

⁴⁴καὶ βόες ἓξ καὶ τριάκοντα χιλιάδες,

⁴⁵ὄνοι τριάκοντα χιλιάδες καὶ πεντακόσιοι

⁴⁶καὶ ψυχαὶ ἀνθρώπων ἓξ καὶ δέκα χιλιάδες.

⁴⁷καὶ ἔλαβε Μωυσῆς ἀπὸ τοῦ ἡμισεύματος τῶν υἱῶν ᾿Ισραὴλ τὸ ἓν ἀπὸ τῶν πεντήκοντα, ἀπὸ τῶν ἀνθρώπων καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν κτηνῶν, καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτὰ τοῖς Λευίταις τοῖς φυλάσσουσι τὰς φυλακὰς τῆς σκηνῆς Κυρίου, ὃν τρόπον συνέταξε Κύριος τῷ Μωυσῇ.

⁴⁸Καὶ προσῆλθον πρὸς Μωυσῆν πάντες οἱ καθεσταμένοι εἰς τὰς χιλιαρχίας τῆς δυνάμεως, χιλίαρχοι καὶ ἑκατόνταρχοι, καὶ εἶπαν πρὸς Μωυσῆν·

⁴⁹οἱ παῖδές σου εἰλήφασι τὸ κεφάλαιον τῶν ἀνδρῶν τῶν πολεμιστῶν τῶν παρ’ ἡμῖν, καὶ οὐ διαπεφώνηκεν ἀπ’ αὐτῶν οὐδὲ εἷς·

⁵⁰καὶ προσενηνόχαμεν τὸ δῶρον Κυρίῳ, ἀνὴρ ὃ εὗρε σκεῦος χρυσοῦν καὶ χλιδῶνα καὶ ψέλλιον καὶ δακτύλιον καὶ περιδέξιον καὶ ἐμπλόκιον, ἐξιλάσασθαι περὶ ἡμῶν ἔναντι Κυρίου.

⁵¹καὶ ἔλαβε Μωυσῆς καὶ ᾿Ελεάζαρ ὁ ἱερεὺς τὸ χρυσίον παρ’ αὐτῶν πᾶν σκεῦος εἰργασμένον·

⁵²καὶ ἐγένετο πᾶν τὸ χρυσίον τὸ ἀφαίρεμα, ὃ ἀφεῖλον Κυρίῳ, ἑκκαίδεκα χιλιάδες καὶ ἑπτακόσιοι καὶ πεντήκοντα σίκλοι παρὰ τῶν χιλιάρχων καὶ παρὰ τῶν ἑκατοντάρχων.

⁵³καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες οἱ πολεμισταὶ ἐπρονόμευσαν ἕκαστος ἑαυτῷ.

⁵⁴καὶ ἔλαβε Μωυσῆς καὶ ᾿Ελεάζαρ ὁ ἱερεὺς τὸ χρυσίον παρὰ τῶν χιλιάρχων καὶ παρὰ τῶν ἑκατοντάρχων καὶ εἰσήνεγκεν αὐτὰ εἰς τὴν σκηνὴν τοῦ μαρτυρίου, μνημόσυνον τῶν υἱῶν ᾿Ισραὴλ ἔναντι Κυρίου.

¹And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

²Avenge the wrongs of the children of Israel on the Madianites, and afterwards thou shalt be added to thy people.

³And Moses spoke to the people, saying, Arm some of you, and set yourselves in array before the Lord against Madian, to inflict vengeance on Madian from the Lord.

⁴Send a thousand of each tribe from all the tribes of the children of Israel to set themselves in array.

⁵And they numbered of the thousands of Israel a thousand of [each] tribe, twelve thousands; [these were] armed for war.

⁶And Moses sent them away a thousand of every tribe with their forces, and Phinees the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest: and the holy instruments, and the signal trumpets [were] in their hands.

⁷And they set themselves in array against Madian, as the Lord commanded Moses; and they slew every male.

⁸And they slew the kings of Madian together with their slain [subjects]; even Evi and Rocon, and Sur, and Ur, and Roboc, five kings of Madian; and they slew with the sword Balaam the son of Beor with their [other] slain.

⁹And they made a prey of the women of Madian, and their store, and their cattle, and all their possessions: and they spoiled their forces.

¹⁰And they burnt with fire all their cities in the places of their habitation and they burnt their villages with fire.

¹¹And they took all their plunder, and all their spoils, both man and beast.

¹²And they brought to Moses and to Eleazar the priest, and to all the children of Israel, the captives, and the spoils, and the plunder, to the camp to Araboth Moab, which is at Jordan by Jericho.

¹³And Moses and Eleazar the priest and all the rulers of the synagogue went forth out of the camp to meet them.

¹⁴And Moses was angry with the captains of the host, the heads of thousands and the heads of hundreds who came from the battle-array.

¹⁵And Moses said to them, Why have ye saved every female alive?

¹⁶For they were [the occasion] to the children of Israel by the word of Balaam of their revolting and despising the word of the Lord, because of Phogor; and there was a plague in the congregation of the Lord.

¹⁷Now then slay every male in all the spoil, slay every woman, who has known the lying with man.

¹⁸And as for all the captivity of women, who have not known the lying with man, save ye them alive.

¹⁹And ye shall encamp outside the [great] camp seven days; every one who has slain and who touches a dead body, shall be purified on the third day, and ye and your captivity [shall purify yourselves] on the seventh day.

²⁰And ye shall purify every garment and every leathern utensil, and all furniture of goat skin, and every wooden vessel.

²¹And Eleazar the priest said to the men of the host that came from the battle-array, This [is] the ordinance of the law which the Lord has commanded Moses.

²²Beside the gold, and the silver, and the brass, and the iron, and lead, and tin,

²³every thing that shall pass through the fire shall so be clean, nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of sanctification; and whatsoever will not pass through the fire shall pass through water.

²⁴And on the seventh day ye shall wash your garments, and be clean; and afterwards ye shall come into the camp.

²⁵And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

²⁶Take the sum of the spoils of the captivity both of man and beast, thou and Eleazar the priest, and the heads of the families of the congregation.

²⁷And ye shall divide the spoils between the warriors that went out to battle, and the whole congregation.

²⁸And ye shall take a tribute for the Lord from the warriors that went out to battle; one soul out of five hundred, from the men, and from the cattle, even from the oxen, and from the sheep, and from the asses; and ye shall take from their half.

²⁹And thou shalt give [them] to Eleazar the priest [as] the first-fruits of the Lord.

³⁰And from the half belonging to the children of Israel thou shalt take one in fifty from the men, and from the oxen, and from the sheep, and from the asses, and from all the cattle; and thou shalt give them to the Levites that keep the charges in the tabernacle of the Lord.

³¹And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the Lord commanded Moses.

³²And that which remained of the spoil which the warriors took, was-- of the sheep, six hundred and seventy-five thousand:

³³and oxen, seventy-two thousand:

³⁴and asses, sixty-one thousand.

³⁵And persons of women who had not known lying with man, all the souls, thirty-two thousand.

³⁶And the half, [even] the portion of them that went out to war, from the number of the sheep, was three hundred and thirty-seven thousand and five hundred.

³⁷And the tribute to the Lord from the sheep was six hundred and seventy-five.

³⁸And the oxen, six and thirty thousand, and the tribute to the Lord seventy-two.

³⁹And asses, thirty thousand and five hundred, and the tribute to the Lord, sixty-one:

⁴⁰and the persons, sixteen thousand, and the tribute of them to the Lord, thirty-two souls.

⁴¹And Moses gave the tribute to the Lord, the heave-offering of God, to Eleazar the priest, as the Lord commanded Moses;

⁴²from the half belonging to the children of Israel, whom Moses separated from the men of war.

⁴³And the half [taken] from the sheep, belonging to the congregation, was three hundred and thirty-seven thousand and five hundred.

⁴⁴And the oxen, thirty-six thousand;

⁴⁵asses, thirty thousand and five hundred;

⁴⁶and persons, sixteen thousand.

⁴⁷And Moses took of the half belonging to the children of Israel the fiftieth part, of men and of cattle, and he gave them to the Levites who keep the charges of the tabernacle of the Lord, as the Lord commanded Moses.

⁴⁸And all those who were appointed to be officers of thousands of the host, captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, approached Moses, and said to Moses,

⁴⁹Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war with us, and not one is missing.

⁵⁰And we have brought our gift to the Lord, [every] man who has found an article of gold, whether an armlet, or a chain, or a ring, or a bracelet, or a clasp for hair, to make atonement for us before the Lord.

⁵¹And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold from them, even every wrought article.

⁵²And all the wrought gold, even the offering that they offered to the Lord, was sixteen thousand and seven hundred and fifty shekels from the captains of thousands and the captains of hundreds.

⁵³For the men of war took plunder every one for himself.

⁵⁴And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold from the captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, and brought the vessels into the tabernacle of witness, a memorial of the children of Israel before the Lord.
